For fans of climbs, this trip is for you!
This famous route in Estrie is ideal for those who want to combine the breathtaking views of the region while taking on a major challenge, namely the ascent of Mont-Mégantic. This 5km climb, whose slope can go up to 18% in places, is recognized as being one of the most popular in Quebec among “climbers”. Although this is a big challenge, the breathtaking view at the top will more than justify the effort (and pain) during the climb.
In addition to this ascent, the Tour du Lac Mégantic offers a variety of landscapes, whether it's the view of the lakes, the fields as far as the eye can see and, of course, the mountains that surround the region. This trip will certainly give you an injection for the roads of the Eastern Townships, if it wasn't already the case.
Although the trip can start at several places, we suggest that you start the route at the Generation Park located on Frontenac Street. There are several parking lots and shops available in the area as well as public facilities, including picnic areas and a beautiful green space along the lake.
Since the vast majority of the trip is in nature, it passes through a few isolated villages that will offer you a fairly limited choice of grocery stores and/or convenience stores for your supplies along the way. We therefore advise you to start the trip with enough nutrition and gear to avoid depending on stops, although there will certainly be a few on your way. The real adventure!
You have to pay a SÉPAQ daily access of $9.55 to climb Mont-Mégantic since it is located inside the Mont-Mégantic National Park. Payment can be made by card, so plan a payment method with you. You can also purchase your pass in advance here. In addition, the SÉPAQ reception has toilets and troughs to fill your water bottles.
Careful! The Mont-Megantic Road is usually open from mid/late May, so we advise you to call the Park before you hit the road if you ever want to take up the challenge in May.
