The Seaway is a classic outing for cyclists in Montreal. Often combined with a few laps on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve (CGV), it can also be used during the longest weekend outings such as the Saturday Fast Rides.
The outing, being on a thin strip of land/gravel, gives you exceptional views of the St. Lawrence River and the city of Montreal. With water on your right and on your left, a change of scenery is guaranteed. The road is forbidden to individuals in cars, making it a perfect area for pedalling freely. Buses and construction vehicles are likely to use it, but they are rather rare.
Being a central point and close to the seaway, we strongly recommend that you start and end your ride at the Messorem microbrewery located at 2233 Pitt Street in Montreal.
Messorem Bracitorium is an industrial microbrewery project with a tasting room, which specializes in the brewing and design of beers. They offer a wide variety of beers and comfort foods. In our opinion, the terrace is their best asset!
If you ever start this trip from the South Shore, the Saint-Lambert Pistache Coffee is an excellent address.
At the end of the seaway is the Recreo-Park and the Bamboo Coffee Shop. This small café-restaurant offers simple cooking: gourmet sandwiches, salads, poke bowls, as well as a multitude of small healthy snacks.
*** The Café schedule is currently under validation as we were unable to find the information.
Otherwise, on the way there and back, you will ride near the Second Cup of Nuns' Island as well as the IGA. Pssst the SAQ on Île-des-Soeurs is also nearby if you ever want to pick up a small bottle of wine for your “post-ride” meal!
The seaway is often FULL of flies in summer, especially at the end of the day. For cyclists who are not used to ride with their mouths closed, be prepared to breathe through your nostrils during this ride and don't forget your glasses.
A small portion of the Seaway is on dirt/gravel/rock. The road is fairly flattened down, but if you don't particularly like this kind of surface, it's good to know before going there.
